Music Editorial

Makke/Hugi

Right boys and gals, here we are with a new edition of Hugi, and here I am writing this editorial for the music corner! Been just over three years since I last wrote an editorial for this section. Don't know if you've noticed my absence but now I'm back, and we've got a great set of music articles lined up for you!

Daverd is displeased with the way you lot treat the percussion in your chip tunes! Read his rant about it, because he's got some good points, including "abuse" of ZIP-files in your music creations and love for small filesizes. A love which I share with him. Vhiiula is also on about chip-choons in a long and well-written tutorial. Worth reading even if you think you know everything about chip's already. Never wrong to refresh your knowledge, or maybe get some new things to think about and reflect.

SacRat gives us a lesson about the frontends of LAME and various forms of audio compression. Audio compression is not exactly my field, so I'll leave you in the hands of SacRat for that. Quite interesting reading though, so don't miss out on his excellent articles.

Personally I've had a look at one of the latest additions to the world of trackers: Renoise. The review was written a couple of months ago, and the program is constantly going through updates and additions. So my review might not be 100% accurate as for features of the program this very date.

I also took a deeper look at the C64 remix community, which I'm an active part of, to talk about the history and future of the C64 remix "scene".

Last but not least, we've got an interview with Richard Kronfält. A musician who's work I'm not as familiar with myself, but at least he's got good taste in music, naming Apoptygma Berzerk and VNV Nation (Two of my favourit bands!) as his preferred listening elements of late.

That's what we have for you this time! Not happy with it? Then I urge you to write one or two articles yourself on a subject that suits you better! Remember, this is your corner! With out you there will be no music corner! So contribute with whatever way you wish! Send us your articles, praise and flames, reviews and thoughts! It's all welcome, and will be featured in the next edition if the quality allows it! Don't be shy! If you think your writing sucks (and even if it do), send it to me and I'll personally help you get on track!

Oh, and last but not least, big thanks to Daverd, SacRat, Vhiiula, iliks and Richard Kronfält for contributing to this issue's fine set of articles! Bless you and keep them coming.

Cheers,

Makke
